SJC in the NewsDr. Shapiro serves as moderator for advanced cardiac life support course VINELAND, NJ, May 19, 2004 – Dr. Barry Shapiro of South Jersey Cardiology was the moderator for the Advanced Care Life Support Course held last Wednesday. This review course for area physicians, which took place at The Fitness Connection in Vineland, fulfilled the necessary requirements for South Jersey Healthcare Staff to maintain ICU and Conscious Sedation Privileges. “It was a sincere pleasure to participate in the ACLS course for SJH,” said Dr. Shapiro. “I am truly fortunate to work in a field where we can make a significant difference in an individual’s quality of life. Continuing to educate ourselves at courses such as the ACLS only makes us more capable to do our best for our patients.” As moderator for the course – Dr. Shapiro organized and executed the day while focusing his lectures on the etiology of sudden cardiac death and current American Heart Association guidelines for basic and advanced life support. Dr. Shapiro was joined by five other speakers – Dr. Thomas Eckerdt, Dr. Mark Gelernt, Dr. Gladwyn Baptist, Dr. Peggy Merckel, and Dr. Scott Wagner. Barry E. Shapiro, DO, of South Jersey Cardiology is one of Southern New Jersey’s leading cardiologists and has treated patients in the region for more than 12 years. As a member of the South Jersey Healthcare medical staff, Dr. Shapiro is on the Physician’s Advisory Committee and the System Critical Care Committee for the health system. He is double-board certified in cardiology and internal medicine. He received his DO degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and served his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Kennedy Memorial Hospitals, Stratford, NJ.
